Last year, at the Decanter World Wine Awardson the St. Andrea Nagy-Eged dűlő Grand Superior 2017-es Egri Bikavér wine got 97 pints and got a Best in Show awards and was included in the top 50 wines in the world.
We have created the latest vintage with the same care, conscious and humble work, and we really hope it is worthy of the reputation of the 2017 wine!
György Lőrincz Jr. talked a little about the Nagy-Eged dűlő Bikavér Grand Superior 2018 wine.
Where did this wine go in development when you learned that its previous vintage of 2017 was among the top 50 wines in the world?
The wine of 2018 was already a great experience in 2021, it was exciting and extremely complex, but at the same time it felt that with its maturation it would be further refined and refined.
How similar and how is the 2018 vintage different from the 2017?
The similarity between 2017 and 2018 is perhaps due to the low rainfall, both of which can be said to be a droughty year here in Eger.
Last year, all bottles in 2017 were sold out almost immediately. Maybe many even opened it up right away to taste such a serious wine. What do you think, when this new vintage will be at its peak?
Our observation is that the big red wines of Eger are very delicious at the age of 3-4, but the further maturation makes them especially noble. From an older area than the Nagy-Eged vineyard, the experience can be amazing at the age of 6. Now there is a lot of emphasis on ripe fruit in the wine.
How many bottles are made of it and how much do you put in it for yourself?
A total of 4,800 bottles were born from the 2018 vintage, of which we would like to take 1,000 bottles so that we can show them later. We really like to be able to sample vintages side by side.
Do you think the market expects to receive a similar reward again? And from yourself?
I think a lot of people are interested in what they’ve received in the past about what they’re tasting. James Suckling also tasted several St. Andrea wines in the 2018 vintage, giving them 93-94 points. We didn’t show Nagy-Eged, but we trust in the “greatness” of the mountain!
Nagy-Eged dűlő Egri Bikavér Grand Superior 2018
The scent is super bright and deep at the same time. Black and red berries, black cherries, red plums and sour cherries. Ground black pepper and barrel spices close the line. Tasted with great balance, the Eger acid structure is complemented by ripe flavors. The taste of red plums and black cherries is super ripe. The big Bull Blood of Eger has an almost infinite finish.
