Christophe Deola, director of Louis Lator Estate, visited Hungary! travel diary of György Lőrincz Jr.

Christophe Deola the director of the Domaine Louis Latour visited Egerszalók to present the best wines of the Burgundy wine region at the Louis Latour X St. Andrea event on 12 March. Christophe had already arrived two days before the event, so we had the opportunity to show him a little slice of our wonderful country.

My father and I were waiting for him at the airport on Thursday morning, and then we took him to St.Andrea Restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Hungary – also recommended by the Michelin Guide – for lunch!

Elegant, sophisticated flavors in a fantastic environment… Restaurant manager Miklós Lizicsár, chef Endre Kollár and his team set the standard high on the first day. We thank them for their lovely hospitality!

In the afternoon, Christophe occupied his accommodation in Egerszalók in the Villa-Cuvée, which, being a wine-themed place, proved to be a perfect choice. We then showed him our cellar and held a 2021 vintage barrel tasting! In the evening we had dinner at the Piroska restaurant in Egerszalók, where traditional flavors and a family atmosphere awaited us.

We wanted to make your stay exciting and collect memorable experiences together, so we figured out to show him the most famous white wine region of Hungary, Tokaj.

On Friday morning we went to Mád, where we spent a wonderful day in one of the best wineries in the country on the Szepsy Estate! We had the opportunity to meet and talk to the older and younger István Szepsy, which is always an uplifting and inspiring experience, and of course a huge happiness!

We also went out to the vineyards of the legendary Úrágya, Urbán and Szent Tamás, where the incredible awareness and precision is striking from the very first moment when looking through the vineyards. They are looking for the best quality furmint version in their own furmint clone selection that will last for generations!

We then tasted more exciting vineyard items from the 2017 season, at the end of we tasted the Szent Tamás 46 wine. The 2016 Szamorodni and the 2011 6 puttonyos Aszú put the crown on all day. Then István Szepsy invited us to lunch at the First Mádi Wine House, where we could taste the most delicious dishes of the Tokaj wine region in addition to the varied dishes. This day was a huge experience in interpreting the Szepsy family, which Christophe was grateful and satisfied with!

Returning to Egerszalók, we showed Christophe the Egri Csillag, Eger Bull’s Blood Superior and Grand Superior wines sent by the Eger Wine Workshop. He liked the wines and, as a positive, he pointed out that each wine was pure, flawless, because even among Bordeaux wines, you can find swaying items if you taste a lot next to each other. He said there are similarities between the wines, which is absolutely good and the older items were also extremely delicious, which is a big gunfire. Afterwards we had dinner together in one of the excellent restaurants in Eger in the Macok bistro.

On Saturday morning I took it around the vineyards of St.Andrea, and then we finally went up to the statue of the Virgin Mary on Mount Nagy-Eged! Christophe’s breath also took hold of the amazing sight and he said that at a glance you can’t compare this vineyard to any other vineyard!

After that, we only had time for a quick lunch before the start of the Louis Latour X St. Andrea evening. We chose the Depresso restaurant in the city center, which is an exciting gastronomic place among the excellent restaurants in Eger. We rested a bit in the afternoon and then the long-awaited exclusive wine show arrived, which went great!

This few days and extraordinary evenings will go down in the history of St.Andrea and we will remember it for a very long time with a heart full of gratitude.
