James Suckling scored Hungarian wines again this year – The wines of the St.Andrea Vineyard are over 90 points!

James Suckling, one of the world’s best-known wine critics once again scored Hungarian wines, of which the wines of the St.Andrea Vineyard received outstandingly high points above 90. Thank you very much for the recognition and congratulations to all Hungarian wineries!

Hangács dűlő Egri Bikavér Grand Superior 2018

Score: 93 Points

1 Apr, 2022 – Effusive black-cherry and blackberry aromas with hints of chocolate and caramel pull you into this rich yet bright red. The ample, fine tannins give this a creamy texture on the mid-palate, but as the tannins build it turns drier at the long finish. A complex Bikaver cuvee, based on 50% kekfrankos with kadarka, merlot, cabernet franc and pinot noir from the Hangács site. Drink or hold.

Agapé Nagy-Eged-hegy Egri Bikavér Grand Superior 2017

Score: 95 Points

1 Apr, 2022 – A deep well of blackberries with notes of bitter chocolate, coconut and smoke, this has excellent concentration and a stack of plush tannins that enable it to effortlessly carry the full body. Very long, velvety finish that has so much life in it, leaving no doubt that this has at least another decade ahead of it. A complex Bikaver cuvee, based on kekfrankos and kadarka with merlot, syrah and pinot noir from the limestone slope of the Nagy-Eged-Hegy top site. Drink or hold.

Merengő Egri Bikavér Superior 2018

1 Apr, 2022 – The deep nose of forest berries with a whiff of smoke pulls you down into the rich and velvety palate of this very impressive red. Stunning balance of elegant tannins, lively acidity and crushed-stone minerality. Long finish that’s both vivid and subtle. A complex Bikaver cuvee, based on kefrankos and kadarka with merlot, cabernet franc, syrah and pinot noir from vineyards on volcanic soil. Drink or hold.

Mária Nagy-Eged-hegy dűlő Egri Cuvée Grand Superior 2018

Score: 94 Points

1 Apr, 2022 – Stunning integration of ripe pear and mirabelle fruit with subtle oak is married to excellent textural complexity on the full-bodied palate. Then the very mineral and silky, long finish seals this impressive deal. A cuvee of chardonnay and furmint from the limestone slope of the Nagy-Eged-Hegy top site. Drink or hold.
